James Laver was born in Liverpool, England, in 1899 and was educated at the Liverpool Institute and New College Oxford. He was Keeper in the Departments of Engraving, Illustration and Design, and of Paintings in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. He wrote widely on art and costume. He died in 1975 . James Laver (1899-1975) was a British author, art historian and museum curator. For more than twenty years he was curator of prints and drawings at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He was also a noted fashion historian.
